RSS allows computers to check for updates to web sites without visiting the site itself. It is used by many news web sites (e.g. the BBC). Users subscribe to an RSS feed, and then when any new items are added, the feed is updated. In order to use RSS you will need an RSS reader. Some modern web browsers (e.g. Firefox, Safari, Opera) are also RSS readers and can be used to subscribe to RSS feeds. Alternatively, there are specialist RSS reader software applications that can be downloaded from the internet.
